Jon Rahm became a huge hit on the PGA Tour with his thrilling victory at Torrey Pines last week, and he had the fans at Scottsdale in raptures as he played the 16th.
Rahm, who holed a monster 60-foot putt for eagle to secure his maiden PGA Tour win in some style at the Farmers Insurance Open, arrived on the tee at "The Coliseum" and pulled a fresh shirt out of his bag.
And he received the warmest of welcomes from the packed grandstands when he pulled on the shirt - an Arizona State University football shirt with the name "Rahmbo" on the back.
The number 42 was also significant as it was the shirt worn by former Sun Devils linebacker Pat Tillman, who went on to play in the NFL for the Arizona Cardinals before retiring an enlisting in the US Army. He was killed in action in Afghanistan just two years later, aged 27.
Rahm asked the crowd to make some noise as he stood over his tee shot, and he managed to avoid a chorus of booing as his ball found the back-right segment of the green.
