Chez Reavie threatened to post the second sub-60 of the week after a fast start to the final round of the Sony Open in Hawaii.

Beginning on the back nine, Reavie birded his opening two holes before adding successive gains at the 13th and 14th.

The 35-year-old then flushed a 6-iron at the 197-yard par-three 17th, watching his effort land 20 feet short of the pin before taking a couple of short hops and rolling in to the cup for a hole-in-one.

Another birdie at the 18th saw Reavie reach the turn in 28 and increase his chance of matching Justin Thomas’ history-making 59 from the opening day.

Reavie then posted three birdies along his second nine, including one at the par-five ninth, although a sole blemish at the sixth ended his hopes of shooting below 60.

The American eventually signed for a nine-under 61 to end the week in a share of eighth spot, as Thomas cruised to victory.
