From a fairytale victory to progress for Phil Mickelson, we look back at five talking points from the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

Cupid delivers in California

It was only fitting that on Valentine's Day we saw a romantic tale unfold to present an unlikely winner at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

Vaughn Taylor, ranked No 447 before his triumph, hadn't even been in the provisional field and was a late entry as first alternate, but came through the field in dramatic fashion on Sunday to snatch a long-awaited victory.

Heading to California without a win in 11 years and not having had a full PGA Tour card since 2012, Taylor's shock one-shot triumph over Phil Mickelson now secures his golfing future.

Taylor's initial goal when teeing off six strokes back was to finish inside the top-10 and avoid having to go through qualifying for next week's Northern Trust Open, but a seven-under 65 combined with a late missed birdie putt from Mickelson handed the 39-year-old the title.

Victory stuns Taylor

Taylor reflects on a surprise win

Victory not only parachutes Taylor up inside the world's top 100, but secures the long-time Augusta resident a first invite to the Masters since 2008. It's a day the American won't forget in a hurry.

Mickelson may now have gone 50 tournaments without victory, but the five-time major champion appears to be edging ever closer to a return to the winner's circle.

The four-time Pebble Beach champion appeared on course for a first win since the 2013 Open Championship when he took a two-stroke advantage in to the final round, but just missed out after a frustrating final day.

Having lost his overnight lead inside five holes, Mickelson rallied and stayed in contention with a string of impressive putts over the closing stretch, but had to settle for second after a five-footer at the last lipped out.

The 45-year-old spent his four month lay-off over the winter working on his swing with new coach Andrew Getson, with Mickelson believing his game is now "back on the right track".

Two top-three finishes in a four-week stretch represents a good return to action for Mickelson and, if he can continue his progress during the Florida Swing, a long-awaited victory surely isn't far away.

Spieth finding his feet

He may have left it too late in the week to have any impact at the top of the leaderboard, but Jordan Spieth saved the best until last during an uncharacteristic off week at Pebble Beach.

The world No 1 only just made the cut and faced an earlier tee time on Sunday to what he has become accustomed to over the past 18 months, but showed signs of his dominant self with a bogey-free 66 during the final round.

Spieth admitted to errors earlier in the week as he continues to recover from a hectic early-season globetrotting schedule, although was buoyed by a much-improved display with both the driver and putter.

Despite a tie for 21st being Spieth's worst finish since back-to-back missed cuts in the FedExCup play-offs last summer, the birdie-filled final day will give him confidence ahead of his latest tussle with Rory McIlroy later this week.

Big three change again

With McIlroy not in action on the West Coast, the trading of places within the world's top three continued as Jason Day reclaimed second spot.

The Australian was far from his best as he stuttered to a one-over 73 during the final round, but a share for 11th is enough to hold a slender 0.16 advantage.

It's unlikely to be the last time we see those two exchange positions, with McIlroy now having the chance to overtake the PGA Champion once again with a strong showing at Riviera this week.

Celebs show how it's done

A star-studded line-up once again graced Pebble Beach this week, with the amateurs once again providing more than a match for their professional counterparts.
