Rickie Fowler says he is due a good performance at the Phoenix Open after struggling at the tournament previously.

Rickie Fowler says he knows he can win this week's Phoenix Open in Arizona after posting a three-under 68 during the second round at TPC Scottsdale.

Having struggled in the tournament over the last couple of years, the world No 4 believes he is playing well enough to finish the weekend with his second win of the year.

"I've been playing well", Fowler said. "I know I can win coming off the win at Abu Dhabi so I'm excited for the weekend and looking forward to the challenge"

"I'm looking for a little bit of redemption. I haven't played as well as I would have liked to here the past few years".

After missing the cut last week at Torrey Pines, the first round leader followed his 65 with a three-under 68 to stay within one of midway leader James Hahn.

Birdies at the third, 13th and 15th helped him to nine under par for the tournament, but he missed a chance on 16 to gain another shot after leaving his putt short of the hole.

"It actually began to quieten down as I was about to hit but I was hoping they would stay loud," Fowler added. "I made a really good swing here, the wind just laid down a little bit and it flew a little bit more than I want to but I actually had a good look at it and didn't actually think I could leave that putt short.

"I made a really good swing here. I was thinking of the swing I made on 16 as I made a really good one there. It was a perfect line, we hit our number. It was nice to make the putt."
