Zach Johnson, Ryan Moore share halfway lead at Valero Texas Open

Zach Johnson reflects on his second-round 65 at the Valero Texas Open, giving the American a share of the lead.

Zach Johnson fired a seven-under 65 to grab a share of the halfway lead at the Valero Texas Open, as Sergio Garcia missed the cut at TPC San Antonio.

Johnson posted five birdies in a six-hole stretch on his way to setting the clubhouse target at nine under, only for fellow morning starter Ryan Moore to move alongside him with a blemish-free 67.

Andrew Landry and overnight leader Grayson Murray sit a shot back in tied-third, with Scotland's Martin Laird part of the group three off the pace after matching Johnson's round-of-the-day 65.

Graeme McDowell birdied two of his final three holes to get under par for the week and make it through to the weekend, as Garcia threw his driver in to the bushes on his way to missing the cut by a shot.

Beginning three off the lead after an opening-round 70, Johnson made successive gains from the 12th and followed a two-putt birdie at the 14th by holing a 15-footer at the par-four next.

An eight-foot birdie at the 17th helped Johnson turn in 31, before the American added a close-range gain at the first with a hole-out eagle from the bunker at the fourth.

Johnson's only bogey came via a three-putt from 35 feet at the ninth, his final hole, as Moore birdied three of his final five holes to join the two-time major winner at the top of the leaderboard.

Landry recovered from an opening-hole bogey to post six birdies and card a five-under 67, with Laird joined on six under by Ben Crane and Canada's David Hearn.
