Justin Rose went all-so close to a hole-in-one during the opening round of the Turkish Airlines Open.

Justin Rose made a steady start to the week at the Turkish Airlines Open, where the Englishman came extremely close to a memorable hole-in-one.

The Englishman bolstered his hopes of a late challenge for Race to Dubai victory with last week's WGC-HSBC Champions win, with Rose continuing his upturn in form with an opening-round 69 in Antalya.

Rose birdied the first and cancelled out a double-bogey at the second with gains at the the seventh and 12th, before receiving gasps from the crowd for his tee shot at the par-three 14th.

The Olympic gold medallist attacked the flag with his tee-shot at the 172-yard hole and came a whisker a way from a slam dunk ace, seeing his effort rattle the base of the flag and spin back to three feet from the pin.

To make matters worse for the 37-year-old, he missed the close-range follow-up and had to settle for a two-putt par.
