Wycombe spoiled York City's return to the Football League as they left Bootham Crescent with a 3-1 win on Saturday.
Following a quiet opening, Matt Bloomfield sprung the game into life as he opened the scoring in the 28th minute with a deflected 18-yard drive via the boot of Chris Doig. The Chairboys doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time courtesy of an early goal of the season contender from Sam Wood. The midfielder controlled the ball on his chest before unleashing a 35-yard effort that flew over Michael Ingham's head and into the net. Wycombe gave themselves a three goal cushion in the 53rd minute as Stuart Beavon fired home Stuart Lewis' cutback. Two minutes later the lead was reduced as Jason Walker deflected in Jonathan Smith's header to give The Minstermen a lifeline. Further chances fell York's way with Matty Blair hooking the ball over the crossbar before Nikki Bull produced a fine save to deny Daniel Parslow.
