Saints keeper has mixed night in goalless stalemate
Southampton keeper Kelvin Davis had a mixed night in a goalless draw with Wycombe at Adams Park.
The former Sunderland stopper's display went from the ridiculous to the sublime as both sides struggled to cope on a boggy surface.
Davis almost gifted the hosts the lead in the first minute when he headed the ball straight to Kevin McLeod but fortunately for the 33-year-old, Jon-Paul Pittman then shot straight at him.
At the other end, on-loan Manchester United keeper Tom Heaton saved from Jason Puncheon after 18 minutes.
Davis was the centre of attention again two minutes later pulling off a point-blank save to deny Kevin Betsy.
But the veteran again nearly handed Wycombe a goal before the break when he let Dean Keates' innocuous shot slip through his legs, only to claw the ball back on the line.
Saints top scorer Rickie Lambert rushed his shot when presented with a good chance in the 64th minute before Davis stole the spotlight for a final time with five minutes remaining, spectacularly saving Pittman's dipping volley.
