Gulls rise to see off Shrews
Torquay eased their relegation fears with a battling 2-1 win over a Shrewsbury side that have now lost five league games in a row.
Torquay target man Scott Rendell hit the 61st minute winner after central defender Mark Ellis had levelled in the 47th minute - both goals came following corners by recalled left-back Kevin Nicholson.
Right-back Dean Holden hammered in Shrewsbury's 27th minute opener from the far post after United failed to clear Jake Simpson's corner from the left.
Holden's strike took a deflection off a home defender as it thundered in past goalkeeper Scott Bevan.
Devon born defender Ellis restored parity in the 47th minute as he powered home a header from Nicholson's corner from the right.
Another Nicholson corner from the left resulted in United going 2-1 ahead in the 61st minute.
Ellis was first to the ball again, heading it across the face of goal, Chris Robertson nodded the ball on and Rendell hammered it in through a crowded goalmouth.
