Swansea defeated Wolves 3-1 at the Liberty Stadium as Mick McCarthy's men were beaten again.

Swansea triumph at Liberty Stadium

Swansea defeated Wolves 3-1 at the Liberty Stadium as Mick McCarthy's men suffered their second Championship setback in five days. Jordi Gomez fired the home side in front after just 26 seconds and Jason Scotland bagged a brace in the second half to seal the points after Andy Keogh's leveller. Wolves, who lost at home to Reading in midweek, are now down to second in the table after Birmingham's triumph over QPR earlier in the day. McCarthy's starting XI showed four changes as goalkeeper Carl Ikeme came in for Wayne Hennessey while loanee Carlos Edwards, midfielder David Edwards and left-back George Friend were all included. Swansea made three alterations from the side that secured an impressive 2-0 win at Preston - Scotland, Darren Pratley and Andrea Orlandi all included. And it was the hosts who made a good start in pouring rain as Gomez received a pass from Orlandi before cutting past a sleeping Wolves defence to fire a low shot into the bottom corner from the left.

Positive

However, Wolves responded in positive fashion and dragged themselves back on level terms after 16 minutes. David Edwards played a neat ball to Keogh who got the better of Angel Rangel before drilling low past keeper Dorus de Vries from 12 yards. Defender Richard Stearman headed a great chance over the bar before Keogh also fired wide shortly after. Chances were coming at either end as Scotland saw his effort cleared off the line by Kevin Foley and Gomez was denied his second of the afternoon by a linesman's flag. Scotland then headed against the crossbar before finally firing low past Ikeme after a neat one-two with Gomez to put the Swans back in front at the break. The second half continued at a furious pace with entertainment at both ends, substitute Sam Vokes forcing a great save from De Vries with his legs just seconds after coming on.
Impressive
Neill Collins cleared Ashley Williams' header away from danger in the 54th minute but the home side did not have to wait long before registering their third. Scotland picked up the ball before calmly smashing a low strike past Ikeme and into the bottom corner to all but put the home side out of sight. Wolves attempted to rally again after going two behind and Karl Henry blasted over from 25 yards. Gower forced an impressive save from Ikeme before the shot stopper was again produced a great stop to parry a Gorka Pintado effort wide. Stearman headed David Jones' corner against a post in the closing stages but the Swans held on to secure all three points and extend their own unbeaten home record while Wolves slipped to second in the table.
