Paris Saint-Germain 1-1 Man Utd: Bryan Mbeumo scores equaliser but Mason Mount off injured in Sweden

Man Utd drew with European champions PSG in Gothenburg, Sweden as their pre-season preparations continued in positive fashion; Bryan Mbeumo levelled after Ibrahim Mbaye's opener, although Mason Mount and Tom Heaton went off injured

Bryan Mbeumo earned Man Utd a 1-1 draw with Paris St-Germain in Gothenburg, a pre-season friendly which left boss Michael Carrick encouraged by the "good signs" from his side.

A slow start, which saw Liverpool-linked Ibrahim Mbaye tuck in a PSG opener after just two minutes and the European champions - despite missing many of their star names - stretch United, was overcome and fears of an injury to Mason Mount were also allayed, with the midfielder later seen walking freely after being forced off during the first half.

The standout Amad Diallo was key to United shifting the momentum. He won the ball back high up the pitch to tee up Mbeumo for a fine finish for United's equaliser and proved too hot to handle for the PSG defence into the half-time break.

Mbeumo would have added to his tally had PSG's Matvey Safonov not been in such sharp form, although the goalkeeper left the pitch to jeers after escaping punishment for clattering Joshua Zirkzee way outside of his area.

At the other end, United goalkeeper Tom Heaton suffered a hamstring issue and had to be replaced. It was a problem which appears more significant than the injury Mount seemingly got to his left foot, which Carrick later suggested was just a kick. With Altay Bayindir loaned to Celta Vigo and Radek Vitek sold to Middlesbrough, 23-year-old Dermot Mee came on for his debut.

There were late chances for Tyler Fletcher, Shea Lacey and captain Bruno Fernandes - who linked up excitingly with new signing Youri Tielemans. United weren't able to find a winner but this was a performance to be positive about.

Man Utd team news: Tielemans on for debut as Bruno returns

Youri Tielemans came on as a second-half sub to make his Man Utd debut in Sweden. Captain Bruno Fernandes also entered the action for his first minutes of pre-season.

Michael Carrick had made just one change from the side which started the win over Atletico Madrid last weekend, with Noussair Mazraoui coming in for Leny Yoro.

PSG were without their France stars Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue or Bradley Barcola.

Carrick 'enjoyed' PSG draw: 'We should have scored more goals'

Man Utd head coach Michael Carrick to MUTV:

"I enjoyed it. Good challenge. Slightly different with the way they play. We should've scored more goals.

"Very different to what we've played against, the boys adapted really well, so there were a lot of positives from the game. The things we were trying to get out of the game, a lot of it was there.

"It's good for the boys sometimes to have to problem solve and find their own way and I thought we did that. That prepares them for the season as well. In that respect there were a lot of things that maybe people don't always see that we were quite happy with. There were some good signs there."

Attacking positives for Man Utd in PSG draw

Sky Sports' Peter Smith:

"Man Utd's attack caught the eye on Saturday, with Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo looking sharp and the connection between Youri Tielemans and Bruno Fernandes already clicking.

"Amad played a big part in shifting the momentum United's way after PSG's fast start. In the final third he won the ball back and passed it more than any other player on the pitch.

"That impact with and without the ball was clear when he found Mbeumo for the equaliser - and the striker's finish was excellent.

"Mbeumo could easily have scored more but for some good goalkeeping, landing four shots on target. No other player managed more than one.

"Debutant Tielemans and returning captain Fernandes could not be expected to be so sharp making their first minutes of pre-season - but still they produced some nice link-up play and signs they will be a big influence in this coming campaign.

"Tielemans' passing from deep was classy; Fernandes was immediately a threat around the edge of the box.

"As Michael Carrick said afterwards, 'good signs' for the season ahead."
