Goalkeeper Jack Bonham was the hero as Gillingham held Portsmouth to a 0-0 draw and denied the hosts a third league win in a row.
Bonham pulled off three good saves at Fratton Park to leave the home crowd frustrated.
The visitors set up to stifle but offered little in the way of attacking threat, while Pompey dominated the ball but lacked any real consistency in the final third.
Gareth Evans' second-minute shot from outside the penalty area had Bonham diving low to turn the ball behind.
Pompey midfielder Ben Close then had a snapshot from Brett Pitman's lay-off, but again Bonham was equal to the challenge.
Gillingham's best effort came through Mikael Ndjoli's left-footed shot from distance, which curled just wide of the left-hand post.
Pompey came closest when Sean Raggett thundered a header off the post from Evans' free-kick and the rebound was scrambled clear.
Another good save from Bonham kept out Ellis Harrison's low drive from 20 yards and Lee Brown's injury-time strike flashed wide to close the game.
