Valiants demolish Lincoln, but could have scored more
Port Vale destroyed woeful Lincoln 4-0 in front of Vale Park's lowest league crowd of the season.
A crowd of just 3,231 saw Vale go ahead after just 23 seconds when a back-pass by Ian Pearce caught out goalkeeper Rob Burch and rolled over the line for an own goal.
And Vale's lead was doubled two minutes later when the unmarked Rob Taylor clipped a close range shot past Burch from Tommy Fraser's pass.
Micky Adams' men should have had a third goal inside six minutes when Burch plunged to his left to keep out a penalty from Marc Richards after the hapless Pearce had handled.
Lincoln appealed for a penalty themselves when Richards appeared to handle in the 15th minute, but the visitors conceded a third just seconds later.
A charging run by Lee Collins led to a low cross from Lewis Haldane which Craig Davies clipped into an empty net from six yards.
Former Vale loanee Chris Herd had a header cleared off the line in the 44th
minute, but Lincoln's miserable night was complete in the 69th minute when John McCombe slammed a fourth from close range.
