Valiants too strong for slumping Quakers
Port Vale ended a run of three successive home defeats as they claimed a 3-1 win against Darlington which takes some of the heat off manager Dean Glover.
Darlington, who are now without a win in their last six matches, repelled early Vale pressure to take charge and Ian Miller's header was cleared off the line before they took the lead in the 26th minute.
Danny Carlton capitalised on some hesitant defending to latch onto Steve Foster's free-kick and score with a well-placed shot inside Joe Anyon's right-hand post.
Liam Hatch went close to a second, but Vale equalised seconds before half-time when Louis Dodds collected Kevin Gall's pass and slammed in a shot which deflected past Andy Oakes.
Vale were in front five minutes after the interval when Rob Taylor fired across the stranded Oakes and inside the far post after Paul Marshall had created the opening.
Vale's top scorer Marc Richards calmed the nerves of the home fans when he hooked in a near-post shot from Dodds' cross 18 minutes from time.
