Marcus Maddison’s 50th goal for Peterborough United helped secure a 2-0 home win against mid-table Gillingham.
Maddison's penalty and a late Matt Godden strike made it back-to-back wins for the first time since October for Posh and helped them keep the pressure on sixth-place Doncaster Rovers.
The defeat was Gillingham's first in four matches.
Maddison's penalty after 57 minutes - his fifth goal in six matches - was a rare note of goalmouth action in a match lacking quality, with goalkeeper Tomas Holy sent the wrong way from 12 yards.
The spot-kick was awarded after Siriki Dembele was adjudged to have been fouled by Max Ehmer as he looked to shoot.
The Gills goalkeeper had been alert earlier in the match to save with his legs from Ivan Toney, while - just before half-time - the visitors' top scorer Tom Eaves had a header tipped round the post by Aaron Chapman.
Godden sealed the win with five minutes remaining, flicking the ball onto Maddison who squared it back to the striker for a simple finish.
