Peterborough 4-0 Accrington: Posh thump Stanley to go top
Wednesday 23 October 2019 22:02, UK
Peterborough moved to the top of Sky Bet League One with a 4-0 home win against Accrington.
Marcus Maddison, Ivan Toney, Frankie Kent and Siriki Dembele struck in the second half to make it five home wins in a row for Posh.
The evening was marred, though, by an injury to Stanley defender Joe Maguire, who was carried off on a stretcher after being struck on the head by a Louis Reed thunderbolt.
That meant there were 12 minutes of first-half stoppage time, the beginning of which saw Sean McConville's 25-yard free-kick superbly tipped onto the bar by Posh goalkeeper Christy Pym.
Offrande Zanzala's follow-up header was ruled out for the ball hitting his arm.

The home side struck on 56 minutes after breaking from an Accrington corner. Louis Reed clipped the ball to Maddison who cut in from the right before dinking the ball over goalkeeper Dimitar Evtimov.
Thirteen minutes later Toney headed in George Boyd's left-wing cross for his 11th of the season before defender Kent headed in Joe Ward's corner at the near post in the 85th minute.
Dembele struck five minutes into stoppage time, rounding Evtimov after being played in by Toney.
