Relegation-threatened Grimsby earned a 2-0 victory over Notts County and a precious lifeline.
Atkinson and Boshell score, but goalkeeper earns plaudits
Rob Atkinson and Danny Boshell got the goals that gave relegation-threatened Grimsby a 2-0 victory over Notts County and a precious lifeline.
But their real hero was Wayne Henderson as the Irish goalkeeper, on loan from Preston, virtually played County on his own in a one-sided first period.
Henderson came to the rescue of Mike Newell's side on no less than six occasions in the opening 45 minutes.
And, on the one occasion Henderson was beaten after 28 minutes, Boshell was on hand to make a goalline clearance from a Delroy Facey header.
County paid dearly for their poor finishing after 52 minutes, when defender Rob Atkinson soared to head in a corner from Peter Sweeney.
And the victory that lifted Grimsby out of the bottom two was completed in controversial fashion after 78 minutes.
The assistant's flag was raised as Danny Boshell went clear to put the ball in the net, but after the officials had consulted, the goal was allowed to stand - and the result ensured that Luton were relegated from the Football League.
