First away win for Palace inflicts more pain on Colin Calderwood
Nottingham Forest's desperate start to the season continued as Crystal Palace claimed a 2-0 victory to keep them firmly rooted to the bottom of the Championship table.
Goals from Paul Ifill and Sheki Kuqi earned Palace their first away win of the season - leaving Forest boss Colin Calderwood to really feel the heat after a third straight loss.
Ifill broke the deadlock in the fourth minute before substitute Kuqi signalled there was no way back for Forest with nine minutes left on the clock.
Palace boss Neil Warnock opted to name the same starting XI for the third successive game and was celebrating when his side opened the scoring after four minutes.
Ben Watson's free-kick unnerved the Forest defence and Ifill pounced to rifle high past goalkeeper Paul Smith from the edge of the penalty area.
Revitalise
Ifill's second goal of the season only served to kickstart Forest and they almost equalised barely a minute after going behind.
Bennett rose unmarked to head Chris Cohen's corner towards goal, but watched in disbelief as the ball bounced over off the top of the crossbar.
Smith needed to produce a smart save to keep out Watson's shot from 30 yards after 21 minutes before Bennett again got on the end of another Cohen corner but failed to hit the target with a close-range header.
Guy Moussi went close twice before the interval and Julian Speroni tipped Bennett's rasping 20-yard drive round the post as Forest finished the first half strongly.
Bennett continued to be Forest's most threatening player in front of goal after the restart as he powered a header from Lee Martin's corner over and Garath McCleary then fired wide from 20 yards 11 minutes into the second period.
Substitutes
Calderwood introduced Cole in a desperate attempt to muster an equaliser and it nearly came 22 minutes from time when McCleary's centre found Nathan Tyson unmarked six yards out, but the ball bounced off the Forest striker and behind for a goal kick.
Substitute Kuqi then squandered a gilt-edged chance to put the game beyond Forest.
Ifill beat two defenders on the edge of the penalty area before his blocked shot fell kindly for Kuqi. However, the Finland international hesitated and fired straight at Smith.
Kuqi was not to be denied nine minutes from time, however, as he made no mistake from 12 yards to open his account for the season.
