Hereford inflicted more agony on Northampton boss Gary Johnson as they won 3-1 to send the hosts to a fourth straight defeat.
The Bulls extended their own unbeaten run to four games and registered a comfortable third successive victory - their first of the season away from home - thanks to first-half goals from Nathan Elder and Steven Leslie. Although Saido Berahino reduced the arrears in the second half, Harry Pell made the game safe for the visitors. Elder opened the scoring in the 13th minute, firing home the rebound after Pell's shot had been saved by Sam Walker. Leslie then doubled Hereford's advantage six minutes later when his 30-yard free-kick took a wicked deflection off the Northampton wall, wrong-footing keeper Walker as it flew into the top corner. Hereford almost made it three in the 34th minute when Elder headed against the crossbar from Leslie's left-wing cross. After the restart Stefan Stam went close with a 30-yard strike for the visitors before Berahino halved Northampton's deficit in the 63rd minute with a close-range effort. Yet Pell restored Hereford's two-goal cushion soon after, exchanging passes with Tom Barkhuizen before scoring with a diving header from the ensuing cross.
