Roberto Martinez felt disappointed to see Swansea resort to a defensive approach after Jonjo Shelvey was sent-off as Everton were held to a goalless draw.
The Spaniard was unable to celebrate his 200th Premier League game as a manager with victory as 10-man Swans - the club that gave him his first managerial post in 2007 - put in a defensive-minded approach for the final 18 minutes for a share of the spoils.
Martinez, who took Swansea into the Championship before moving on to Wigan and then Everton in the summer of 2013, was surprised by the Welsh side's tactics.
He told Sky Sports: "It's like when you go to the cinema to see a fantastic movie then you get let down a little. I thought two teams who are technically really very good and the control of the ball is always very good. The philosophy of the game is really similar so I expected an open contested games.
"It was disappointing to see them trying to run the clock down and take the tempo out of it and try to hit us on the counter but everyone is allowed to play the way they want.
"I thought they defended really, really well and we managed to stop them having a shot on target and having any corners.
"I'm pleased with the defensive work that we done, but probably the sending-off (to Jonjo Shelvey) didn't help because it got them even tighter and a little bit more defensive minded in the last period of the game which frustrated us a little bit and we didn't manage to get the win."
Despite Everton's best efforts they were unable to convert their dominance into goals.
"It's the first time we haven't managed to score in a game but overall you're looking at the two teams and you look at the stats of the game and it will be difficult to explain how we didn't find the back of the net," said Martinez.
