Gers defender unhappy with Burley 'insult'
David Weir has blasted Craig Burley's claim that some Scotland players were "too thick" to understand his uncle George's methods.
George Burley was sacked as Scotland boss on Monday night after less than two years in charge.
And nephew Craig, who won 46 caps between 1995 and 2003, defended his uncle, saying the players were to blame for his demise.
"I don't think what he wanted to do got across to some players and also I think some of them are too thick to take it on board and not good enough to take it on board anyway to be perfectly honest with you," said Burley.
Rangers defender Weir is unhappy with the criticism of Burley and claims the comments of the former Celtic midfielder are an 'insult.'
"I find that a ridiculous comment to make and 100 per cent untrue," Weir told the
Daily Record.
"Someone with Craig's experience at the top level should know better than to say something like that.
"Professional players aren't in the game because they lack the intellect to do anything else. We're fortunate to be in the game and we appreciate that, but to say we're thick is an insult.
"We wouldn't be international players if we were too thick to understand what the game's about."
