Italians romp to victory as Villarreal slip up

Red Bull Salzburg upset Villarreal, while Lazio proved too strong for Levski Sofia. Lazio got their Europa League campaign up and running with a thumping 4-0 victory away to Levski Sofia. The Italian giants put in a ruthless display over their Bulgarian counterparts, and went some way towards putting their opening defeat to Red Bull Salzburg. Francelino Matuzalem began the rout when he finished from 12 yards with a neat right foot drive on 22 minutes. An emphatic finish from former Birmingham striker Matias Zarate doubled the away side's advantage on the stroke of half-time. Second-half goals from Mourad Meghni and Tommaso Rocchi wrapped up the win as the Seria A side proved their difference in class. A goal either side of half-time ensured Salzburg maintained a perfect start to their Europa League campaign with a 2-0 win over Villarreal. The Group G leaders reiterated their aspirations as potential winners with a comfortable display in a 2-0 win against the Spaniards. Marc Janko opened the scoring for the Austrian side after 21 minutes and Somen Tchoyi ensured the victory with his strike six minutes from time. After an opening win over Lazio, Salzburg have now secured victories over arguably the group's two biggest names and look good to progress to the next stage.
