Striker rules out return to Malta
Michael Mifsud is weighing up offers from a number of sides as he looks to find a new club.
The future of Mifsud remains on hold despite the Malta international showing he was back to his best when scoring twice in his country's victory over Georgia in an international friendly last week.
Mifsud, who is available on a free transfer after leaving Coventry, is believed to have declined an invitation to meet with Sheffield United to discuss contract terms and has so far rejected interest from a host of other foreign, Championship and League One sides.
It has been mooted in the Maltese press that Mifsud could be returning to the Maltese league which would be a surprising move for a player at the peak of his career.
However, Mifsud has moved quickly to to dispel the rumours of a return to his homeland.
"At present, I can only say that I'm considering offers from a host of overseas clubs," Mifsud told the
Times of Malta.
"I expect to resolve my future in the next few days but I want to stress that there is no truth in reports that I am close to signing for (local club) Valletta.
"My aim is to continue my professional career abroad and there has been no shortage of interest from overseas clubs.
"At this stage of my career, I have no intention of returning to Maltese football"
Mifsud ended last season on loan at Barnsley and reports have suggested that Newcastle United may be preparing a move for the striker, should his former Sky Blues manager Ian Dowie be appointed at the club.
Mifsud enjoyed a successful spell at Coventry under Dowie, scoring memorable goals against Manchester United and Blackburn in the Carling Cup.
