Warren Feeney will have surgery on his hip after the problem cost him his move to Leeds.
Bluebirds striker to have hip operated on
Warren Feeney will undergo hip surgery to rectify the injury that is thought to have been the reason why his move to Leeds fell through.
The striker was all set to switch to Elland Road last week before the injury scuppered his move after it caused him to fail the medical.
The 28-year-old is set for a short spell on the sidelines but it remains to be seen whether Leeds will renew their interest after the operation.
It also remains to be seen whether the Northern Irish international has a future at Cardiff after being loaned out for the whole of last season to Dundee United.
"Medical staff tell us it's exactly the same problem Roger Johnson had last season," chairman Peter Risdale told the South Wales Echo.
"Warren is back with us and will have surgery to sort out his hip. He'll be back 100 per cent in a short time."
