Former Chelsea midfielder Gus Poyet would relish the opportunity to take charge of Championship outfit Swansea.
The Liberty Stadium side have stepped up their search for a new manager after Roberto Martinez's protracted move to Wigan was finally completed on Monday.
Poyet, who worked as No.2 to Dennis Wise at Swindon and Leeds, has been out of work since he left Tottenham's coaching staff in October last year when Harry Redknapp replaced Juande Ramos.
And the 41-year-old Uruguayan has confirmed that he is eager to take his first steps into management with the Swans.
"I would really be interested in the job," he said. "I would really like to go there, it would be a great opportunity."
Poyet has already spoken to Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins, as have Sheffield United coach Gary Speed and former Watford boss Aidy Boothroyd.
Jenkins admitted earlier in the week that there were six serious contenders in the running to replace Martinez.
