Sacchi - Robinho lost his head

Former Real Madrid technical director Arrigo Sacchi believes Robinho made a mistake joining Man City.

Former Real supremo feels sorry for Brazilian

Former Real Madrid technical director Arrigo Sacchi believes Robinho 'lost his head' when joining Manchester City and allowed money to dictate the transfer. After a failed world-record bid to land AC Milan star Kaka, the latest controversy at Eastlands surrounds Robinho's decision to quit the club's warm weather training camp in Spain. The Brazilian left the City squad on Tuesday in order to return to his homeland, sparking rumours of a bust-up with manager Mark Hughes, and Sacchi is concerned about the player. Robinho claims his trip to South America was agreed with City, but Sacchi - who was responsible for signing the 24-year-old at ex-club Real - believes the saga is an indication that the playmaker regrets his £32million move to City. "He obviously lost his head when looking at all those figures and let money dictate," Sacchi told The Sun when asked about Robinho's British-record transfer on the final day of the summer transfer window. "It was not a footballing choice. And now, at City, he has lost the happiness that football gave him. And, just as sad, is that he has lost the 'fantasy' in his football. "He totally messed up. No one can choose to leave Real Madrid in order to go to a club like Manchester City! "A top player aged only 24 can never leave Real Madrid like he did and for those reasons."
