Michael Chopra has told Cardiff he wants to stay at Ninian Park and help a push for Championship promotion.
The Sunderland striker's 11-game loan spell with the Bluebirds came to an end after Sunday's 1-0 victory over Plymouth.
But Chopra - who spent one year with Cardiff between 2006 and 2007 - is keen to remain in Wales as Dave Jones' fourth-placed side chase a place in the Premier League.
"I'd love to stay and help Cardiff City get promotion," he told the
South Wales Echo.
"I've spoken to the chairman and manager over the last few days and told them I'd love to stay at Cardiff.
"They have told me they will do all they can to make that happen. I have made my intention known and it's up to the two clubs now.
"I just hope something can be sorted out because I like the way Cardiff play and things are happening here."
