Pompey chief rules out move for free agent

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp has resigned himself to missing out on Stephen Appiah. The Ghana international is available on a free transfer after negotiating his release from Fenerbahce earlier this summer. Redknapp has admitted his interest in the Appiah, who has also attracted attention from West Ham and Arsenal. Despite being a free agent, Redknapp believes Appiah would still be too pricey for Portsmouth due to his personal demands. "I doubt it very much whether he will be coming to us," Redknapp told The News.

Expensive

"He's going to be expensive. He's going to want big, big wages, so it will be difficult. "We have already brought players in. I have got a squad and we've spent money to do that. The owner has been great. "But we're not planning to do anything else now."
