Three Lions call too much for Cottagers midfielder

Fulham club secretary Darren Preston admits news of an England call-up silenced Cottagers joker Jimmy Bullard. The midfielder was a shock inclusion in Fabio Capello's squad for upcoming 2010 World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Croatia. The former Wigan man is renowned for his bubbly character and outgoing personality, but was unable to speak after being made aware of his international recognition. Having told Preston that he would be unable to deal with the mounting media requests, the Cottagers official joked he had never seen the likeable 29-year-old in such a state. "It's the first time he's ever been that!" Preston said in the Daily Star.

Ambition

The silence did not last long, though, and Bullard revealed he is set to fulfil a life-long dream as he joins the England preparations for two crucial fixtures on the road to South Africa. "I'm absolutely buzzing," he said. "To represent England has been my ambition ever since I was a young boy and to be called up by Fabio Capello is just a dream come true. "I've been working hard since my return from injury and I'd like to think that has earned me this chance. "Now it's down to me to prove myself to the manager and just see what happens from there. "I can't wait to meet up with the squad today. This is just an incredible moment for me."
