New boy follows in footsteps of Reds legends

Robbie Keane admits he is honoured to have been given the No.7 shirt at Liverpool. The Irish striker has joined his boyhood heroes from Tottenham Hotspur and is set to make his competitive debut for the club in Wednesday's UEFA Champions League qualifier with Standard Liege. Keane has been handed the No.7 jersey worn by the likes of Kevin Keegan and Kenny Dalglish in the past, and is aware of the significance of the shirt. "It's a massive shirt number and to be awarded it means a lot to me, bearing in mind the players who graced it in the past are my heroes," Keane told ZOO magazine.

Massive compliment

"If people want to say I have a similar playing style to Dalglish, then that is a massive compliment to me! "But I will be doing my best to make sure I do the shirt proud." Keane is looking forward to playing alongside Fernando Torres, but feels he will offer a different style to the Spaniard's international team-mate David Villa. He added: "As good as David Villa is, I like to think I am my own player and won't be trying to be Liverpool's version. "But if Fernando and I can become as successful for Liverpool as he and Villa are for Spain, then that would be fantastic!" Read the full article in ZOO magazine, out now.
