Keeper hopeful of Turf Moor switch
Peru goalkeeper Diego Penny claims he is close to a move to Burnley.
Clarets boss Owen Coyle has been tracking the Coronel Bolognesi custodian for some time and is keen to bring him to Turf Moor.
Penny is open to a move to England as he would like to try his luck in a bigger league and he claims only a work permit is required for the move to go through.
"My agent is handling the negotiations with Burnley," Penny told
El Bocon.
"The last thing he said to me is that the only thing that is left to be done is obtaining my work permit to be able to play in England.
"Besides that, the negotiations are going in the right way I'd prefer not talking too much about it. I have to wait and be calm.
"To tell the truth I don't want to stay. I want to leave Peru to play in a better league and to have a better way of living, a better lifestyle.
"I want to improve, so if this transfer is done it will be a very good chance."
Apology
Meanwhile, new Burnley striker Martin Paterson has apologised to Scunthorpe fans following his departure from Glanford Park.
The 21-year-old arrived at Turf Moor in a deal worth £1.3million but received criticism from some quarters after making it clear he would like to leave The Iron following their relegation.
"I am a winner, so getting relegated was difficult. It hurt but knowing I could join a Championship club with a history like Burnley's was just too good to turn down," Paterson told Burnley's
official website.
"The club wants to push on and with no disrespect to Scunthorpe, I have joined a bigger club with the aim of bettering myself.
"However, I have nothing but thanks to Scunthorpe and the manager, coaching staff and fans for giving me an enjoyable year of Championship football.
"They took to me and I feel I have to apologise for the way I left. But that's modern football and if you have a chance to go and better yourself you have to take it."
