Wigan boss delighted after holding leaders
Wigan Athletic manager Steve Bruce believes the point gained against Arsenal could prove decisive in their fight for Premier League survival.
Bruce's men restricted The Gunners at the JJB Stadium on Sunday, battling for a priceless 0-0 stalemate.
Wigan now sit 13th in the table, three points above the relegation zone, and Bruce has praised his players after their return of 20 points from their previous 15 fixtures.
Magnificent
"It could be the point that we need to stay up," he told
Sky Sports News. "They have produced a magnificent effort over the last few weeks to get us in the position that we are in.
"We have got nine games to play, and if we keep playing with that endeavour, let's hope that could be the point that takes us safe."
Bruce went on to hail his side's attitude as they grew in confidence during the 90 minutes against Arsenal.
"There was a chance for us there and I thought that the longer it went on and the more confident we got, that we could get something.
"You need that belief. The longer it went we sensed we could get something.
"Overall, before the game you would be absolutely delighted with the point.
Surface
"We have shown over the past few weeks that we have got some good players here and a decent team."
On the JJB Stadium's poor playing surface, Bruce added: "We have got a tip of a pitch to play on."
