Defender outlines ambition and receives boss' praise

Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna has set his sights on claiming UEFA Champions League glory this season. Sagna has shone since his move from Auxerre last summer, making the right-back position his own and tallying 34 starts. The France international is currently readying himself for the second leg of Arsenal's Champions League last 16 clash against Milan. And he has explained that his team-mates are confident of securing a memorable success at the San Siro after the 0-0 draw in North London a fortnight ago. "We know we can defeat Milan. They are favourites, but we will play our game and try to win," he told L'Equipe. "They have great players but so do we. We want to win the Champions League."

Supersonic

Meanwhile, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has moved to praise Sagna, hailing his professionalism. "He is a warrior, a winner that can go from an attacking position to a defensive one at supersonic speed," he said. "He has a lot of stamina. In the French team, he is the successor of [Bayern Munich's] Willy Sagnol. "Here (at Arsenal), he is loved by everyone, an honest man who has adapted and settled very quickly. "He only thinks of improving and is the kind of guy that makes you want to pay to become a coach."
