Guus Hiddink has played down reports linking him with the Bayern Munich job.

Russia coach claims he has had no contact with Munich

Guus Hiddink has played down reports linking him with the Bayern Munich job, stating he has not been contacted by the Bavarian giants. With experienced tactician Ottmar Hitzfeld due to leave the 20-time Bundesliga champions at the end of the season, speculation has been rife on who may take over. Russia coach Hiddink, who is tied to the nation until the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa, has been reportedly high on Bayern's wanted list.

Rumours

However, while the former PSV Eindhoven manager is flattered at being linked to such a prestigious club, he says there is nothing in the speculation. "There's been no contact (with Bayern). I've just extended my contract with Russia until 2010, with a view to the 2010 World Cup," said Hiddink. "There are always a lot of rumours, and Bayern are a big club in Europe. To hear my name linked to them is nice, but there's no substance in these rumours."
