Ajax unhappy with midfielder's silence over contract offer
Ajax admit they remain in the dark over the future of Dutch international Hedwiges Maduro.
The Amsterdam outfit offered the midfielder a new deal in September to his current contract, which expires at the end of the season.
Ajax say they gave Maduro a 20th December deadline to accept the deal on the table but the 22-year-old has not responded to their offer.
Plenty of time
Ajax's technical director Martin van Geel told the club's official website: "We have given Hedwiges plenty of time.
"I would like to have heard that he wanted to stay at Ajax. In any case I expected to know were Ajax stand.
"It is a pity to hear that there has been no decision taken at all."
Van Geel hinted that the club would not "sit back and wait" for Maduro to make his final decision.
Closing in
Meanwhile, Ajax say they are closing in on signing Khalid Boulahrouz from Sevilla.
The Dutch international defender is keen to leave the Spanish side after becoming surplus to requirements.
Sevilla say they will release Boulahrouz, who is on loan from Chelsea, if they can sign Czech Republic international Tomas Ujfalusi from Fiorentina.
However, Sevilla are set to face a battle for Ujfalusi's services with Liverpool and Tottenham also tracking the 29-year-old defender.
