Newcastle are set to complete a £13m deal for winger Florian Thauvin after the player arrived on Tyneside ahead of a medical, according to Sky sources.
It is believed talks are centering around the possibility of including Remy Cabella going the other way on a season-long loan as part of the deal and although he trained with United on Tuesday, he left the session early.
Newspapers reported earlier this year that Tottenham were another club interested in Thauvin, with the Daily Mail even claiming talks had been had between the clubs.
But Sky sources understand Spurs were not interested in the former France U21 international at any time.
Thauvin spent his youth career with four clubs; Ingre, Saint-Jean-de-la-Ruelle, his hometown club Orleans and then Grenoble, where he broke into the first-team at 17.
He spent two years with Bastia before moving to the French top flight with Lille in January 2013, but he was loaned straight back Bastia for the rest of the season.
In the summer of 2013 he then moved to Marseille having never made an appearance for Lille, and subsequently scored 14 goals in 76 appearances.
