England and Manchester City Women goalkeeper Karen Bardsley has been charged with violent conduct by the Football Association for her part in an off-the-ball incident with Birmingham’s Freda Ayisi.
The California-born keeper appeared to aim a forearm at the former Arsenal winger while defending a corner during the 0-0 draw with Birmingham City Ladies on Sunday.
Ayisi reacted angrily and pushed Bardsley in the face resulting in her dismissal. The match officials had not seen Bardsley’s involvement in the incident but it was caught on video, a statement from the FA read.
Bardsley has been given until 6pm on Tuesday, March 31 to respond to the charge
