Juande Ramos' first press conference saw the Spaniard talk of the immediate plans for his Tottenham side.
Spanish tactician looks for evolution not revolution in North London
Juande Ramos' first press conference as Tottenham manager proved to be an altogether low key affair, as the Spanish tactician outlined his vision for the future that appears to be more evolution than revolution.
Speaking via a translator, Ramos spoke of how he was delighted to be in England, of his affection for the Premier League and how he intends to improve Spurs' results.
Ramos admits his immediate concern is drawing an end to the club's current malaise that has seen them drop into the relegation places.
For the moment at least, he is happy to observe his players in action before deciding more long-term aspirations.
"I'm very happy to be here, this is a great club and a great team," said Ramos.
"I have just landed here in this country but my main aim is to asses the strengths of the team. And when I have done that then I will be able to work out the long-term aims.
"Obviously I am fond of the Premiership - I have always followed it very, very much.
Premier passion
"I have knowledge about Spurs having played against them last season with Sevilla - I'm optimistic as for the first 60 minutes (against Blackburn) we were winning and doing well but for the last 20 minutes we conceded two goals and that's what I did not like.
"Obviously we take things step-by-step. The first thing is to get a couple of results and confidence. Obviously I have signed a long contract so my aims will get better as the years go by."
Ramos went on to pay tribute to the work the popular Martin Jol did at White Hart Lane before his sacking, while at the same urging his new charges to respond positively to the changes he will make.
"I have a lot of respect for Martin because he had two great seasons. When I start training with Spurs I will try to create some discipline and I am sure the players will respond to the challenge."
It is widely reported that Jol did not enjoy the best of working relations with Tottenham's director of football Damien Comolli - who many believe is responsible for which players are brought to the capital.
However, when quizzed on what kind of relationship he would have with Ramos, Comolli insisted it would be an entirely unproblematic affair.
No problem
"For us, for Juande, he has worked in this structure all his career - so for him, there is no problem with this.
"It will be exactly the same, I will work with Juande, there wasn't big discussions because we didn't feel it was a problem.
"We are looking for stability and I am a great believer in that. I think it is about the right person, in the right club, at the right moment."
Comolli went on to intimate his view that there would not be wholesale changes to Spurs' personnel in forthcoming transfer windows.
"As Juande said when he joined the club, we've a very talented squad who haven't been getting results - rather than thinking of the future windows."
