Czech stopper to move to the Bundesliga

Wolfsburg have reached an agreement with Sparta Prague to sign defender Jan Simunek. Simunek, who starred for the Czech Republic Under 20 side that reached the final of the World Cup in Canada, is expected to put pen-to-paper on a four-year contract with Wolfsburg. The 20-year-old will move to the Bundesliga for a fee believed to be in the region of 5.5million euros (£3.7million). Wolfsburg coach Felix Magath is hopeful of having Simunek signed in time for the young stopper to feature against Duisburg next weekend. "I am sure that Jan will appear in my squad for the next game and with this, our defence will firm up," Magath told DSF. "He is the biggest talent in the Czech Republic." Simunek is seen as a suitable replacement for Ricardo Costa after the new signing was ruled out until the end of the year with a cruciate ligament injury suffered against Wuerzburg in the German Cup.
