Fred Murray has joined Leyton Orient on trial as looks for a permanent contract.
Fred Murray has joined Leyton Orient on trial as he bids to earn a permanent contract at Brisbane Road.
The defender, who has recently regained full fitness after two years on the sidelines with an Achilles injury, has fallen out of contract at Northampton Town.
Cobblers manager Stuart Gray believes he is covered at full-back, with the likes of the versatile Brett and Bradley Johnson to select from, and has decided to let Murray leave.
"I've allowed Fred to go to Leyton Orient," Gray told the Northampton Chronicle & Echo.
"Brett has played well when he's been in the side and I just feel with him available that it was right to let Fred go and try to get a contract at Orient.
"We're quite well off for left-backs, you could even shove Brad there if you had to."
Meanwhile, Gray has decided to keep trialist Joe Howe to bolster the other side of his defence and the former MK Dons player is expected to feature in Wednesday's friendly with Kettering.
"We'll keep Joe until the end of the week to give us the chance to have a bit more of a look at him and then make a decision," said Gray.
"He can play in several positions, he can play right-back, on the right wing and he can probably even do a job in midfield."
However, midfield trialist Ramon Manak has not been asked to stay at the club after failing to impress at the pre-season training camp in Ibiza.
