In an amazing twist Roberto Ayala is set to join Real Zaragoza.The Argentine defender had signed for Villarreal on a Bosman transfer from Valencia after his contract expired at La Mestalla.
However, before even playing a single game for Villarreal - Ayala has decided he now wants to play for Zaragoza and has paid his buy-out clause of ,é¼6million (£4million).
The 34-year-old has agreed a three-year deal with Zaragoza and will join them on a three-year deal upon his return from the Copa America.
"Ayala has paid the clause to Villarreal and in the next few days will sign a three-year contract with Zaragoza," said a Real statement.
Villarreal have yet to comment on Ayala's shock decision.
