Sharp in Norwich talks

Norwich are holding talks with Billy Sharp after bidding £2m for the Scunthorpe striker.

Sharp was top scorer in League One last season and is considering a new contract after Scunthorpe's promotion.

But several fellow Championship clubs are trying to tempt The Iron into a sale, with Wolves and Sheffield Wednesday reportedly having bids turned down.

West Brom and Preston North End also hold an interest in the former Sheffield United youngster, who bagged 32 goals in all competitions last term.

Norwich have now upped the ante in the chase for Sharp after being given the go-ahead to speak to the 21-year-old.

"We have given Billy permission to go and talk to Norwich," Iron chairman Steve Wharton told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

‚Ç£Norwich have had a £2million bid on the table for some time - and want to be sure that Billy wants to join them before pursuing their interest further.

‚Ç£They have offered £2million, but they know we are looking for add-ons to that which could take the price to near the £3million mark if they are promoted to the Premiership.

‚Ç£We have had increased bids from both Wolves and Sheffield Wednesday, but neither of those come anywhere near what Norwich have offered."

Canaries boss Peter Grant recently confirmed his interest in Sharp and has also been chasing Southend United's Freddy Eastwood and Colchester United's Jamie Cureton.
