Doyle lands Blues deal

Birmingham City have rewarded goalkeeper Colin Doyle with a new contract.

Birmingham City have rewarded goalkeeper Colin Doyle for a series of assured displays with a new four-year contract that binds him to the club until 2011.

Since usurping Maik Taylor between the posts at St Andrews in February, Doyle has impressed everyone at the Championship table-toppers, including his manager Steve Bruce.

At the weekend Doyle produced a man of the match display against Wolves, with his last-minute penalty save earning Birmingham a vital three points in their bid for promotion.

Birmingham coach Eric Black has been full of praise for the 21-year-old, who recently received a debut call-up to the Republic of Ireland senior squad.

Black said: "Colin has waited patiently for his chance but now he has grabbed it with both hands.

"He has got a magnificent presence and his handling has been secure.

"I can only see him developing into an even better keeper over the next year or two."
