Emre relief at clearing name

Emre Belozoglu has spoken of his relief at being cleared of racism allegations.

The Turkish international was charged by The Football Association with using racially-aggravated abusive and/or insulting words following an incident against Everton in December.

The FA's disciplinary panel dismissed the case last month after the charge was not proved, allowing Emre to concentrate on playing once again.

"I am a Turk in England. We are ambassadors for our country," Emre told The Times.

"Just imagine how awful it would have been if I, of all people, had been found guilty of racism.

"It would have affected my career - and the careers of other Turks trying to go abroad.

"You know, in Turkish there is a saying: 'Sling mud and the stain will never come off.'

"Well, I know in my heart that I am not guilty, but if you have such a conviction on your record, how do you ever get away from it?"

Having had his name cleared, Emre says he is happy at Newcastle and would like to see out his contract at St James' Park.

"My plan from now is to best serve the club which gave me such support," he added. "I have a contract until 2010.

"I am happy with my life here and I would like to stay now I have been cleared.

"But if the club say they would benefit from my moving then I would think about it."
