Kahn praise for Hitzfeld
Oliver Kahn believes Ottmar Hitzfeld will guide Bayern to victory over Real Madrid.
Oliver Kahn believes that Ottmar Hitzfeld will guide Bayern Munich into the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League despite their 3-2 first leg defeat to Real Madrid.
A slender 1-0 win would be enough to take the Bavarians through to the next round and Kahn is convinced that replacing Felix Magath with Hitzfeld will pay off for the struggling Bavarian giants.
"We have to keep on going on the path shown by Hitzfeld. Tactically we have improved from game to game so far," Kahn told Bild.
Hitzfeld, who guided Bayern to the European crown in 2001 and several domestic titles during his first spell in Munich, suffered a difficult start since taking the helm from predecessor Felix Magath last month, but step by step he seems to have stabilised his inconsistent team.
"Hitzfeld has implanted self-confidence into our heads and we have now the unshakable belief that we can achieve everything we want," explained Kahn, who admitted that he is thrilled by meeting the Spanish outfit in a packed Allianz Arena.
"These kind of games are electrifying, it's all or nothing and there's no need for us to go and thrash Real right from the start. We have to focus on a compact defence and it doesn't matter if we score the goal two minutes before the end."
