Wolfsburg will be without new signing Julio Dos Santos for over two months.
The 23-year-old midfielder is set to join the Wolves on a six-month loan deal during the winter transfer window.
However, he suffered a broken fibula in his final training session with Bayern Munich on Tuesday and will need to undergo an operation.
According to Bayern's club doctor, the Paraguayan international will be sidelined for the next ten weeks.
Better news for Wolfsburg is that coach Klaus Augenthaler looks set to stay at the VW Arena.
The former German international stopper's current deal expires at the end of the season, but contract talks would appear to be going well.
"We have reached an agreement that we would like to continue working together," VfL general manager Klaus Fuchs revealed.
Final talks are expected to take place in January.
