Jermain Defoe is confident that he is the man to fire Tottenham to silverware having revelled in the absence of Robbie Keane.England international Defoe has all too often cut a frustrated figure on Spurs' bench over the past few seasons but Keane's absence with a knee injury has opened the door for the diminutive striker.
Defoe was on target twice on Thursday as Tottenham secured qualification to the last 32 of the Uefa Cup, with a 3-1 defeat of Dinamo Bucharest, and in recent weeks has looked close to capturing his best form.
Having netted eight times in his last seven starts Defoe is confident his goals can help Tottenham to their first trophy since 1999.
"It's great. I said to the boys I feel really sharp now," he said.
"When you get a run of games you feel sharper and fitter; I feel really fit, so I'm enjoying it.
"You speak to any striker; when you score you just want to feature in the next game and get a rhythm. I think I'm getting my rhythm.
"I believe when I play games and feel sharp I will score goals. At the minute they are going in, luck is on my side - and it's good.
"If we could go all the way it would be great for everyone at the club and the fans - it's been a long time.
"It would be my first medal - and winning things is what it's all about. If we can do that this year it would be great."
