Torquay midfielder Matt Hewlett has no idea when he might return from injury. The 30-year-old has missed the whole season so far after a prolapsed disc injury, and there are fears the problem could cost him his career.
Hewlett went for an operation to aid his recuperation nine weeks ago, but boss Ian Atkins is not expecting him to return any time soon.
"Matt has still got problems, and he certainly won't be doing anything with us in the near future," he told the Herald Express.
"It's a shame, because I've always liked Matt as a player and I was thinking about signing him for Bristol Rovers when he came here last year.
"Not having him available to play is of secondary importance to Matt's own future."
Hewlett admits the problem is causing him concern, but the former Swindon man is still looking forward to a trip to see his new side take on his former team-mates at the weekend.
"It's a difficult period for me, and I'm taking my time before making decisions, with the surgeon who did the operation, about what's the best next step.
"I'm planning to be at Plainmoor on Saturday. I still have a few mates in the Swindon side, although there's been quite a turn-round there in the last year or so."
