Ipswich rule out Halford move

Ipswich Town have ruled out a move for Colchester United utility man Greg Halford.

Ipswich Town manager Jim Magilton says his side cannot to make a move for Colchester United utility man Greg Halford.

The 21-year-old is keen to move on from Layer Road after handing in a transfer request to the Essex outfit.

The youngster has attracted the interest of clubs from The Premiership, with U's boss Geraint Williams claiming only 'a big club' could afford to buy the talented youngster.

One of those clubs will not be Championship rivals Ipswich, with Magilton claiming Halford is too rich for the Portman Road club.

"Greg Halford is a player I would love to have in this team," Magilton told the East Anglian Daily Press.

"He is someone we have spoken about here and someone I have watched a few times and liked what I have seen.

"But we just don't have the sort of money that it would probably take to sign him."

One player set to remain at Ipswich is young goalkeeper Shane Supple after the teenager dismissed reports he was on the way out of the club.

The 19-year-old was not involved in Ipswich's last two games, but Supple revealed a wrist injury had sidelined him from playing.

"I hurt my wrist in training on Monday and it was always going to be a risk being involved," Supple told Ipswich's official website.

"The physio staff and manager decided I might aggravate it if I played, so decided not to take that risk."
