Wayne Rooney admits he was baffled by his sending off against Porto in the Amsterdam Tournament.
The Manchester United striker was dismissed towards the end of the first half after catching Porto defender Pepe in the face with his hand.
Television replays suggested the clash was accidental and Rooney was looking at the ball as he went up to win a header.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was bitterly upset after the game and claimed the youngster's red card was 'ridiculous'.
Rooney could now be suspended for the start of the new Premiership season, but the England international felt he was hard done by.
Indeed, the 20-year-old even thought he would be awarded a free kick, rather than be sent off by referee Ruud Bossen.
"I thought the ref was going to give a free kick for the foul on me because of the defender backing in," said Rooney.
"I can't believe he has sent me off for that."
Rooney's red card against Porto came in only his second appearance since he was sent off in the World Cup for stamping on Portugal stopper Ricardo Carvalho.
